New Hotel for Malé

The InterContinental Hotels Group announced
from its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore
it has signed an agreement to manage the new
hotel.
In a statement released to the press today,
the group says it will operate under the Holiday
Inn brand.
The building will be situated close to the
President's office, at the junction of Nasreeny
Goalhi and Maeer Ahmed Magu, and is scheduled
to open in 2008.
The 120-room hotel will offer meetings and
conference facilities, food and beverage outlets,
recreation facilities including a roof-top swimming
pool and a spa and fitness centre.
"We are pleased to introduce the award-winning
Holiday Inn brand into Malé," said
Jan Smits, chief operating officer, InterContinental
Asia Pacific.
The main investors in the project are Malé
Hotel Associates Sourcing Limited, whose main
shareholders are Abdul Sattar Ali and Lawrence
Lee.
"The opening of Holiday Inn Malé
presents a strategic opportunity for the InterContinental
Hotels Group to contribute to the thriving tourism
industry in Maldives, generate jobs for locals,
and to mark our presence in the Indian Ocean,"
said Smits.
InterContinental is the world's biggest hotel
group by number of rooms and operates in over
100 countries and territories around the world.
The group owns or manages a portfolio of hotel
brands from five-star luxury to basic airport
hotel accommodation.
