New Hotel for Malé - Holiday Inn

November 30, 2006

The InterContinental Hotels Group announced from its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore it has signed an agreement to manage the new hotel.

In a statement released to the press today, the group says it will operate under the Holiday Inn brand.

The building will be situated close to the President's office, at the junction of Nasreeny Goalhi and Maeer Ahmed Magu, and is scheduled to open in 2008.

The 120-room hotel will offer meetings and conference facilities, food and beverage outlets, recreation facilities including a roof-top swimming pool and a spa and fitness centre.

"We are pleased to introduce the award-winning Holiday Inn brand into Malé," said Jan Smits, chief operating officer, InterContinental Asia Pacific.

The main investors in the project are Malé Hotel Associates Sourcing Limited, whose main shareholders are Abdul Sattar Ali and Lawrence Lee.

"The opening of Holiday Inn Malé presents a strategic opportunity for the InterContinental Hotels Group to contribute to the thriving tourism industry in Maldives, generate jobs for locals, and to mark our presence in the Indian Ocean," said Smits.

InterContinental is the world's biggest hotel group by number of rooms and operates in over 100 countries and territories around the world.

The group owns or manages a portfolio of hotel brands from five-star luxury to basic airport hotel accommodation.
